Maybe within a half hour or so. Also, is there anywhere in between that would allow driving to west virginia for work?|||In good traffic, it would take over an hour to get from West Virginia to Arlington.
From Arlington take the Dulles Toll Road out to Route 7 west and then you would take Route 9 into West Virginia near Charles Town.
Leesburg would be about the halfway point.|||I don't know Virginia at all but here's a website with details on place to make a day trip there:

how about Maryland - very close to Arlignton/DC area
