I got a call today from Virginia Dominion Power regarding an account I had over 9 months ago that went past due about 10 months ago. They said they sent a letter out 9 months ago but I never received it. And since then, this is their first attempt to collect the debt. What are the laws on collecting the debt on a past due account in Virginia, if there even are any?|||Yes, they have 7 years to sue you.|||They are required to send a final bill and final bill notices to the address you gave them. So, if you moved out, and gave them a forwarding address, that is where they were supposed to notify you of the final bill. You were then obliged to pay it.

After that, you have to be served notice of an intent to sue. That can also be sent to the last kwown address.
