Ok I wanted to make wreaths out of these vines, but I wanted to make sure it was Virginia Creeper and not poison ivy. Yes I know to pull up the Va creepers roots and such. I am not allergic to either one. But I would rather have a wreath made out of the creeper vine rather than the poison ivy vines. It doesn't have any leaves on it at this time of year.|||A clear distinction between the two: eastern poison ivy has three leaflets and Virginia creeper has five leaflets. At this time of year with no leaves you'd almost have to be a botanist I think to tell the difference.
My suggestion if you really want to use the vines is to wear long sleeves and gloves while making the wreaths and remove both directly after. Best choice would be to find some grape vines and just use the smaller one to make your wreath.|||Virginia Creeper looks like this:

The biggest difference being that VA Creeper has 5 leaflets. I don't know how well VA Creeper will hold up to wreath making. The vines wilt pretty severely once pulled out of the ground. Honeysuckle and WIld Grapes are good for wreathmaking.|||Look this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwGDymGeR鈥?/a>
The video show the exactly difference between the two plants.|||Poison Ivy vines have little reddish hairs that grab onto things. Virginia creeper vines have individual tendrils that twist around what they are climbing on.|||pi - aerial rootlets = rootlike holdfasts
vc - tendrils end in circular adhesive-like tips
