I have been set an essay over the summer to discuss how four texts are modernist, and the first I have read is 'To The Lighthouse' by Virginia Woolf. I have noted that the narrative features a stream of consciousness and that it has a heavy philosophical focus. Can anybody else help me out please?|||A heavy philosophical focus isn't really a strictly modernist trope. What I think you mean is that the novel forgoes plot for philosophy; the absence of plot and action is a key feature.
You may also wish to discuss the frequent changes in perspective, and subtle allusions to other works of literature.|||This essay covers the work well: http://www.peerpapers.com/essays/Lightho鈥?/a>
I think it should could help you. If not, you can try searching the site, they have quite a few essays on To the Lighthouse.
