Instead of raising taxes the state of Virginia has decided instead to impose outrageous fines for traffic violations. For example, a $3,000 speeding ticket. Under this new plan the state is counting on raising billions. Is it just me or is this an outrageous abuse of power?|||THE STATE OF VIRGINIA HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR YEARS TO PROFILE DRIVERS FROM OTHER STATES AND THOSE REDNECKS WILL MAKE UP ANY REASON TO GIVE YOU A TICKET. I GOT A TICKET AT DULLES AIRPORT FOR GOING PAST AN AIRPORT COP AND HE ACTUALLY SAID I DISOBEYED A TRAFFIC SIGN WHICH WAS HIS CAR IDLING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE SECOND ONE WAS ON THE ACCESS ROAD FROM DULLES AIRPORT WHERE THERE WAS TOO MUCH TRAFFIC ON THE 495 BETHESDA EXIT, I DECIDED TO GET BACK ON 66 INSTEAD OF BEING STUCK IN THAT TRAFFIC. EVEN THOUGH I WAS STOPPED, THIS FOOL GAVE ME A TICKET FOR RECKLESS DRIVING. IF YOU NOTICE, THE MAJORITY OF THE TICKETS ARE FROM THE EVENING SHIFT COPS. ACCORDING TO A COUPLE GOOD ONES I SPOKE TO ON THE MORNING SHIFT TOLD ME THE EVENING SHIFT WAS AN EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE GROUP OF COPS AND THERE HAVE BEEN LOTS OF COMPLAINS ABOUT THEM. ANOTHER THING IS THEY PROFILE PEOPLE THAT LOOK FOREIGN TO THEM IN HOPES TO CAPTURE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, AND WHEN THEY FIND OUT THAT THEIR SUSPICIONS ARE WRONG, THEY CREATE A REASON TO CITE YOU. UNFORTUNATELY, WHEN YOU GO TO THEIR TRAILOR COURTHOUSE, THERE IS ALSO A CORRUPT JUDGE WHO DOES NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING YOU HAVE TO SAY OR EVEN IF YOU HAVE A WITNESS. MY CONCLUTION IS THEY'RE ALL ABOUT REVENUE AND COSTING PEOPLE THEIR LIVELYHOODS WITH FALSE CITATIONS THAT GO TOWARDS YOUR DRIVING RECORD. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF RECKLESS DRIVING WHERE YOU PAY $150.00 WITHOUT POINTS? AFTER DRIVING IN MARYLAND FOR 12YEARS WITHOUT A SINGLE TICKET, TWO OF THOSE VIRGINIA REDNECKS GOT THE BEST OF ME IN 2003/4 REALLY MESSING MY RECORD. WHEN I REPORTED THEM, THEY STARTED STOPPING ANYBODY THAT DROVE FOR MY COMPANY LOOKING FOR ME FORTUNATELY I HAD CHANGED TO A PRIVATE ONE THAT THEY HAD NO IDEA ABOUT. SO THE MAJORITY OF TICKETS IN THAT STATE ARE ALL ABOUT REVENUE AND FOREIGNERS AND VISITORS FROM OTHER STATES ARE THEIR MAJOR TARGET. ANYONE READIND THIS, STAY AWAY FROM VIRGINIA. IT'S NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU DO. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT REDNECKS THAT HATE THEMSELVES AND WHAT THEY DO FOR A LIVING THAT THEY'RE WILLING TO BRING ANYBODY DOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON.|||don't speed|||I think I would slow down......|||thats gay good luck fellow virginians|||I agree wholeheartedly!! Everyone boycott it!!! Drive 20 miles an hour on the interstate!|||Can't pay the fine, don't do the crime. It is against the law to drive in excess of the posted speed limit. I am for it. It is a grand way of raising state revenues.|||too much , are they in deficit? it is outrageous and abuse|||US States can pass any laws they like to deal with people in violation of their rules. In Indiana & Illinois there are fines, not quite as large, but getting there if someone is speeding through a construction zone. This is because a lot of construction workers have been killed by people ignoring the yellow diamond flashing warning signs. People are free to appeal this to Supreme Court, provided they can pay some lawyer to take their case. Perhaps a class action suit is duable. I am wondering how many people can even pay these fines, and what happens then ... will the state confiscate the vehicle that was speeding, sell it at public auction to get the money for the fine?|||I think that the state is feeling just a tad broke so they put a hefty fine on something almost everybody does....the government is always raising prices/taxes to raise money for themselves....sucks but is true....|||that is so cool. i believe that if you drink and drive you should go to jail.. it should be attempt murder.|||Speeders (and reckless drivers) cause accidents that cost taxpayers millions in lost productivity and require expensive safety equipment and structures. Maybe these fines reflect the true cost of speeding and the other violations they're paying for.|||Sounds like a good idea to me. It's not an abuse of power. It is possible that they could go years and not collect a dime..... All that needs to be done is for the morons behind the wheel to obey the speed laws... Not a problem for those who obey the laws....
