virginia: Prior to the eighteenth century, any free man living in Virginia, had the right to vote and elect into office members of the colonial assembly. What requirement did Virginia adopt that changed who had the right to vote, and who did this requirement effect?|||In 1867, Virginia was placed under US military rule. A constitutional convention held in Richmond under the leadership of carpetbaggers and scalawags drafted a constitution that disqualified the overwhelming majority of white Virginians from holding office and deprived about 95% of them of the right to vote. In this crisis, a compromise was negotiated under which white Virginians would accept ***** suffrage if they themselves were permitted to vote and hold office.
